One of my favorite games to help students understand the power of place value and problem solving is called the game of 10 000
Here is how you play You will need a set of playing cards with the 10s and face cards removed. Each ace counts as 1. The goal in each round is to make two 4-digit numbers whose sum (+) is as close to 10 000 as possible. How to play: Ø Shuffle the cards. Ø The dealer deals 8 cards to each player. Ø Each player uses his or her cards to make two 4-digit numbers. Ø Each player finds the sum of his or her numbers, then the difference between 10 000 and that sum. Ø The difference between 10 000 and the sum is the players score for the round I also play with 4 cards and you have to get to 100 and six cards to get to 1000 Let us know how it goes Also if you don't have cards try a number generator to get your digits or even dice Mr. H Comments are closed.
