By Christy Jordan-Fenton We have been working through a Novel Study called "Fatty Legs" It is about how a young Inuit girl's quest to learn how to read and in turn going to a residential school against her parents wishes. Please talk with your kids about the novel and how they felt when we were reading as a class. I passed out all the novels for our Book Report today. I personally picked each novel for each student.
Here is the project outline and I will go over it again at Parent Teacher Interviews Canadian Historical Novel Project Due Date: Monday March 2nd 2020 You will need to include: Part A RESEARCH – Historical Background of your Story
Part B STORY SUMMARY • Title, Author, Publisher and Publishing Date • Summary: 7-8 sentences that retell the important events of the story
Part C MINI-MUSEUM You will create one Artifact and one Artwork to represent your Novel. Please do not spend any money- repurposed materials and homemade creations You must let me know by Monday January 20th 2020 what artifact and artwork you will be creating for your mini-museum. You will hand in your intentions for your project on a piece of paper that has been signed by your parents. This is not when the project is due, just a plan on what you want to create so that you do not leave the project to the last minute. An artifact is an object that is formed or made by man. This should be of significance (ie. importance) to the character. This could include a journal entry, newspaper story, photo album, poem or writing another chapter, etc. Artworks could include: watercolour, pastel, pop-up illustration, diorama, collage, mixed media, stop motion film, etc. If you have other ideas please see me for prior approval- I am flexible. You will be presenting parts A, B, and C to the class, Please rehearse your presentation before you share your work with the class. Some students in the past have found it helpful to present in character or dress in historical outfits when presenting their novel and research about their novel’s time period You will hand in all parts of you project after you have presented to the class, and you must be ready to present by Monday March 2nd 2020 canadian_historical_novel_project_2019.docx Hello Everyone,
We had a really informative and eyeopening Remembrance Day Assembly today. Please ensure you talk to your child about what they saw and felt during the assembly. Yesterday we read and went over the importance of learning about History. We read and spoke about the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. Many student spoke of the stories they had heard from relatives and friends that had been to war. Student then had a choice to write or draw about how they want to 'Remember' from the sacrifices of Canadians who fought for our democracy and freedom. We also practiced our blending with pencil as an Art Lesson. |
